Fully Involved Fire In Daytona Beach By Sasha Staton, Community Relations and Emergency Preparedness Specialist Daytona Beach firefighters were on scene of a fully involved structure fire at 1124 Lakewood Park Dr. in Daytona Beach. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a one-story residential home fully engulfed and immediately began offensively attacking the fire. Daytona Beach fire department along with Holly Hill fire department aggressively worked on the fire to get it under control; however, due to the high winds fueling the flames, the conditions were deemed too unsafe for the firefighters and they were instructed to immediately evacuate the house. Firefighters then switched from an offensive mode to a defensive mode and continued to work to extinguish the fire from the exterior of the structure. The fire was controlled and no one was injured. Palm Bay Fire Rescue Respond to Warehouse Fire By Anthony Gianantonio, Deputy Chief In February, Crews from Palm Bay Fire Rescue battled a carpet warehouse fire. The fire was reported to be a dumpster fire exterior of the structure. When crews arrived they quickly deployed attack lines to make a stop on the fire. After further size-up, they forced a side bay door to find that the exterior fire on the Delta side had extended into the structure and was now consuming a high rack of stored carpet rolls. The crews advanced attack lines to attack the high rack fire from a position at the bay door. Command requested a second alarm at this point for more personnel resources. For a short period an aerial water way was put into operation to keep the fire from advancing further into the rest of the structure. After the fire was knocked down, crews re- positioned back to the interior to complete mop up and overhaul. In total, 55 personnel were on scene from Palm Bay, Melbourne and Brevard County. Cause of the fire is under investigation. April 2018 FFS.QXD 4/10/18 2:02 PM Page 37
