Richmond Leonard “Chief” Bland (89) June 15, 2016 Chief Bland was a retired Fire Chief in Pompano Beach, as well as a WWII Veteran and a 55-year member of The Florida Sheriffs Association Youth Ranch. He is survived by his wife Florence, two sons, one son-in-law, seven grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. David Russell “Rusty” Case (53) September 6, 2016 David Russell Case passed after a short battle with cancer. At 16, Rusty signed up as a fire cadet, then a volunteer firefighter. He later attended Daytona State College and started his full-time fire department career. Before working as a Battalion Chief for Volusia County Fire Services, he retired from the Ormond Beach Fire Department as Division Chief. His love of railroading inspired him to work with the Tavares, Eustis, and Gulf, starting as a conductor and ultimately earning his engineer’s card. Survivors include his wife Jo, one son, one daughter, one brother, and five grandchildren. David Robert Dangerfield (48) October 15, 2016 David Dangerfield was Battalion Chief of the Indian River County Fire Rescue, served as a master dive trainer for Dive Rescue International, and as an instructor at both Indian River State College Fire Academy and Palm Beach Fire Rescue. He founded the annual Firefighters’ Chili and Salsa Cook-off, a charity fundraiser, and continued to organize for ten years, raising thousands of dollars for the children of Indian River County. In 2013, David was named Emergency Service Provider of the Year by the Treasure Coast Fire Chiefs’ Association. David was a graduate of Indian River State College and received an Associates of Science in Fire Sciences. Survivors include David’s parents and two sons. Jack R. Dull (82) July 14, 2016 Jack Dull joined the Eau Gallie Fire Department in 1966 and retired in 1992 as the Fire Chief for the combined cities of Eau Gallie and Melbourne. He was also a member of the Melbourne Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his two sons, four grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and two sisters. He was predeceased by his wife Daphne. Charles Fant (64) January 15, 2017 Charles Fant passed after a long battle with cancer. He was a member of the Treasure Island Fire Department for 41 years and served as fire chief for 30 years until his retirement in 2012. During his early years at the fire department, he was among the first few hundreds of Florida firefighters that became certified firefighters. He saw the implementation of the county’s 911 system, which culminated with the opening of the county’s 911 communications center in the late 1980s. In 1986, he was part of the Pinellas County Fire Chiefs Association committee that developed an automatic aid agreement with the county’s 18 fire departments to provide backup service to a primary responder. He is survived by his wife Patricia, two daughters, one brother, one sister, and his parents. Edward Martin Hofle (74) August 21, 2016 Edward graduated from the University of Akron, and taught math/science at Thornton Jr. High. He moved to Hialeah in 1970, and decided to become a Hialeah Firefighter/Paramedic and eventually Deputy Fire Chief. After retirement in 2005, he relocated to Ocala. Edward is survived by his wife Carol, two daughters, and two sisters. Roy L. Isakson, Sr. (80) October 8, 2016 Roy was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma caused by Agent Orange as a result of his time served in Vietnam, and passed after a short battle with cancer. After 25 years of military service, Roy retired at Hurlburt Field as a Master Sergeant. Roy started as a volunteer firefighter with the Midway Fire Department, and ended as a Division Chief having devoted 45 years to fire rescue. In 2009, Chief Isakson stepped up as the state's only volunteer fire inspector and received his accredited certification as Florida Fire Inspector and Fire Instructor III. Survived by his wife Theresa, one daughter, two sons, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Crawford Jackson (89) August 15, 2016 Crawford Jackson retired from the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad Company as an Engineer. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Moose Lodge in Jacksonville, Sea Oats Garden Club in Port St. Joe, and worked for the Port St. Joe Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and honorably served in World War II. Mr. Jackson was predeceased by his wife Jean. He is survived by one son, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Paul Johnson (90) August 4, 2016 Paul Johnson served in the Coast Guard during WWII and was a City of Hialeah Fire Chief. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working in his garden. Survivors include his wife Vonda, two sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. Eugene John McCarthy (76) February 3, 2017 Eugene was a Marion County resident for over 30 years and worked as a Station Chief for Marion County Fire Rescue. Eugene is survived by his wife Robin, and one brother Lewis William Morgan, Sr. (78) September 9, 2016 Lew Morgan was a firefighter for the City of Sarasota and retired with the rank of Battalion Captain. When he moved to the Englewood community he was the Fire Chief of Boca Grande from 1989 to 1996. He is survived by his wife Sandra, one daughter, two sons, five grandchildren, and one great- granddaughter. F or those families who are able to attend and accept a memorial plaque on their behalf, five bugle fire chiefs and FFCA members will be recognized during the Memorial Service on Sunday, July 16.
