Out of State Firefighting Certificate of Compliance Listening Session
The State Fire Marshal's Office will be holding a "Listening Session" on changes to rule for Out of State Firefighting Certificate of Compliance.
The workshop will take place at The Florida State Fire College, 11655 NW Gainesville Road, Ocala, Florida 34482 on October 26, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.
This listening session is being held because of the issue the FFCA raised about the need for reciprocity for out of state firefighters who are trained in accredited firefighter certification programs. We raised this issue because Florida's population growth is coming from people moving here from other states, not from birth rates. Florida currently has reciprocity with for EMTs and Paramedics who come from out of state. However, firefighters must take the state's written and practical certification exam and complete a course before being considered for certification in Florida. We have proposed and adopted within our legislative priorities, the ability for out of state firefighters who have completed an accredited fire certification training program and who have state certification from another state the ability to apply for an obtain certification based upon reciprocity.
The Florida State Fire College stated they are working to provide a Teams option or at the very least a telephone call-in option. Once that information is made available, we will send an update on this event to the membership.
